Valley Spring Ball
“Whoa dude, did you like catch out that rad PARTY those Young Adults dudes had?”
The 15th of September 2006, was host to daises and chilled attitudes as
we celebrated the new season in true Flower Power style.
The evening was organized by the Young Adult’s home cell and open for
all to enjoy. Strings of flowers and balloons cascaded from the roof,
and the cool experience of ‘floor tables’ was there to enjoy.
Entertainment included our Master of Ceremonies, Phil Rees who had us in
stitches with his comical antics, a band that rocked us to some 60’s
classics and an enchanting Miss Sarah Durrant,
Jewel of the Nile who
captured our attention with her beautiful style of belly dancing. The
evening’s musical entertainment did not only include the band but rather
some original renditions of old 60’s classics done by some hippest cats
who dared to brave the stage in karaoke. One of which was the
‘Locomotion’ which had everyone up and dancing in a line. Not to be
excluded from the entertainment were the amazing fire poi’s of Desire
Rees, whose fiery display held our eyes to her mastery of the flame.

Sticking with true 60’s traditions, we attempted to see how many JFM
children we could stuff into a ‘beetle’. Desire’s car was decorated
appropriately, then the cramming began! A whopping 27 children were
stuffed in and they all came out breathing!
What would an evening be without the fun of a hidden auction? Our
auctioneer Shelia, had us bidding for items without knowing what the
items were, this left some with great deals and others holding a R17
roll of toilet paper. A teddy bear auction was also held; these teddy
bears will be taken to the Eersterust children which Valley supports.
An awesome night was had by all! This event successfully brought
together all the age groups of Valley reintegrating the importance of
family. It couldn’t be said better than by the YA cell “Together is
better!”
Great thanks to all who were involved in the running of this very
successful evening, hope to see you all there next time. Miss it, miss
out... ask any one who was there!
Peace out, man!
